Russia is Europe's fastest-growing Internet ad market
Russian Internet advertising market was the fastest-growing in Europe in 2012, according to Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). In its report, he non-for-profit organisation said the Internet segment showed an overall rise in Europe, although the growth rate had dropped.

Internet advertising reaches 19% of the market
Experts of the Russian Association of Communication Agencies (AKAR) have revealed the country's advertising market results in the first quarter of 2013. Total market value exceeded 70 billion rubles (roughly $2.2 bn.), up 14% from Q1 2012.

Yandex new search platform presented
Russia's leading search engine Yandex has officially announced its new platform, which the company branded "Yandex.Ostrova" (Russian for 'Islands"). According to Yandex, the platforms is designed to 'shorten a user's path from a search query to the goal of their search'.

VKontakte revenue down, visits soar
Russia's leading social network VKontakte saw a dramatic 94.5% net profit drop in 2012, according to the annual report of the company's major shareholder, Mail.ru Group. VK's gross revenue grew by over 44% to 4.47 bn. rubles (roughly $144 m), as its net profit dropped to 30.5 million rubles.

More smartphones then regular phones sold in Q1
For the first time in Russia, sales of smartphones exceeded those of regular mobile phones in the first quarter of 2013, RIA Novosti reports, citing a research from IDC. The study says our of the total 418.6 million mobile phones sold, smartphone accounted for slightly more than a half (216.2 m).

Yandex reports 79% Q1 2013 benefit growth
Yandex net income in the first quarter of 2013 grew by 79% compared to the previous year, reaching 2.2 bn rubles ($70.2m), according to the company's quarterly report. The results exceeded all forecasts, as analysts had predicted Yandex benefits to add 51%.

Experts gather to discuss the state of online payments
A round-table discussion on the state of electronic payments in Russia took place at last week's RIF+KIB annual Internet industry conference. The meeting was organised by Uniteller acquiring company with support from the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC). Russia's e-commerce market grew by 27% in 2012, reaching a value of over 400 bn. rubles ($12.6 bn.), according to Sergey Plugotarenko, head of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC). Speaking at the annual RIF+KIB forum organised by RAEC, Mr. Plugotarenko added that physical goods sold via the Internet account for nearly three quarters of the market's value: 280 bn. rubles.
